The following is an excerpt from a transcript. It is taken from an interview recorded at a secured location. Certain details have been deliberately omitted.

AUTHOR: Please state your name.

DORIS: You can call me Doris.

AUTHOR: Is that your real name?

DORIS: Move on to the next question, please.

AUTHOR: Please, I’m just trying to get some sense of your background.

DORIS: Next question.

AUTHOR: The information I’ve been given suggests that you’ve got quite a long history with Jason Cutter. How did you first meet him?

DORIS: East Berlin, 1967. He helped me. I was grateful. He brought me back to the West.

AUTHOR: You would’ve been about 17 years old at the time. There’s a gap in the official record. What happened to you over the next five years?

DORIS: That’s not open for discussion.

AUTHOR: The information I have says that the two of you parted company untl the summer of ’72. What happened? Boarding school? College? CIA spy training?

DORIS: Yes.

AUTHOR: You’re a very self-contained person. Is that a job requirement? Or, are ou just that way, naturally?

DORIS: I don’t have the luxury of being messed up. Never have.

AUTHOR: I have the impression tat you don’t get along well with Griff.

DORIS: I don’t know what you’re talking about.

AUTHOR: Hey, come on. I’ve already been through fifty hours of video. I’ve seen how you two don’t get along. You argue with him, or he takes issue with you. I know that’s not sibling rivalry. What’s going on with you guys?

DORIS: I’m sure you’ll figure it out.

AUTHOR: There’s one thing I haven’t been able to figure out. I know why the others agreed to be a part of this conspiracy. Why did you agree to go along with this?

DORIS: I’m sure you’ll figure that out, too.

AUTHOR: Was it loyalty?

DORIS: Yes.

AUTHOR: I understand. Seems like all of you are loyal to Jason Cutter.

DORIS: He’s done a lot for us. We owe him.

AUTHOR: You say ‘he’ like the man is still alive. According to Doctor Adkins, there’s very little chance that Jason has survived underneath the Fisk programming.

DORIS: Doctor Adkins is a conservative thinker.

AUTHOR: How do you get along with Fisk?

DORIS: I do know that he’s not Jason Cutter.

AUTHOR: Is it hard for you to tell the difference between the two?

DORIS: Not at all. Fisk is reckless under stress. Jason is…was…always a thinker.

AUTHOR: That’s what Griff told me.

DORIS: He would know.

AUTHOR: Tell me one thing about Preston Fisk that nobody else knows.

DORIS: I don’t know you well enough for that.

AUTHOR: I have the distinct impression that you know him better than anyone else.

DORIS: He’s my friend. I don’t gossip about my friends. If you want to be my friend, I suggest that you stick to the facts, as you have them. Don’t guess. Don’t speculate.

AUTHOR: I have clearance---

DORIS: You’re trying to psycho-analyze me. This is not an interrogation, and I’m not an onion that you can peel for kicks. I don’t like being questioned.

AUTHOR: Okay, then. I’m sorry. You talk, and I’ll listen. Tell me what you want me to know, so that I can do justice to this project.
